Story of the Year appeared at the end of the 90's in St. Louis, Missouri. First, the band was called Big Blue Monkey, but in 2002 it changed the title. The group's lineup consisted of Dan Marsala (vocals), Adam Russell (bass), Joshua Willis (drums), Phillip Sneed and Ryan Phillips (both: guitar). In the early 2000's they issued several EP's before moving to Southern California.
