Ben Lee released his first single "I wish I was him" as a satirical tribute to the Lemonheads' Evan Dando. After hearing a record Dando recorded a cover version. Mike Diamond (the member of the Beastie Boys) heard the track and asked to be allowed to issue the song as one of the first releases on the Beastie Boys' own label, Grand Royal. Then followed Young and Jaded EP, where were recorded six acoustic songs of Ben Lee.
