Progressive and hard rock band Queen is the most successful music act to come from England in the past three decades or so, forming in 1970 and releasing 18 number one albums and the same number of top singles, until 1991, when lead singer Freddie Mercury died of AIDS and the band took on a new direction, keeping its name Queen but with changing singers, currently featuring Paul Rodgers.
