About Patti Smith
Patti Smith read Arthur Rimbaud in high school and listened to James Brown and other soul and rock artists. But above all, and perhaps fuelling comparisons later in life too, she listened to Bob Dylan. Like Dylan, Patti Smith moved to New York where she met the right people (photographer Robert Mapplethorpe) and recorded music that would mix genres and create something altogether new and invigorating.
