About Joy Division
Founded in 1977, first named by various names, including Warsaw, Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris settled on the name Joy Division, a reference to the female sex slave units on Nazi concentration camps. Like their name Joy Division has been a difficult band to swallow musically, but taking the stage they would leave a mark on any person who attended their famed live concerts, influencing and inspiring a load of alternative bands to follow.
