American proto-punk icon Jonathan Richman has been active since 1971, years before the sex Pistols covered his song Roadrunner and the song appeared on the soundtrack of a successful movie, the comedy School of Rock. With many tributes and cover versions along the way, the song has been widely held as the first punk song and Jonathan Richman has established his won reputation as the Godfather of Punk.
