Not only was Green Day a highly successful post-nirvana band, in a time that the American alternative rock scene was in a crossroads, but they also turned out to be quite influential, with a number of following acts with similar catchy three-chord tunes and 70s punk style. Green Day hit the market in 1994 with Dookie and immediately reached success rates unfamiliar to punk bands, with 8 million records sold.
